Europe is going to stop being a serious civilization within this generation and almost nobody is willing to say it in those terms.

Europe is actually ending as the thing it has been for the last five hundred years.

The continent that produced the scientific revolution, the industrial revolution, global empire, liberal democracy, and most of the intellectual and cultural inheritance the modern world runs on is genuinely going away.

What replaces it will share some of the same geography and some of the same languages but it will not be the same civilization.

The six weeks of jet fuel is not the story.

The story is that this is the visible consequence of a civilization that has lost the will to sustain itself.

Europe stopped having children.
Europe stopped producing its own energy.
Europe stopped defending itself.
Europe stopped building industrial capacity.
Europe stopped growing its economies n real terms.
Europe stopped believing in its own cultural inheritance enough to pass it on.

Each of those is individually a crisis.

Together they are civilizational suicide in slow motion.

The demographic collapse is the terminal condition.

1.3 to 1.5 fertility for a generation means the native population will halve within two generations.

Replacement migration from culturally distinct populations is not continuity of the civilization. It’s substitution.

The continent will still exist.
The population will be different.
The culture will be different.
The political systems built around the old population will be under stress they weren’t designed to handle.

This is happening now and it’s not reversible because the children who would have been the Europeans of 2060 simply were not born.

The energy crisis is the near term manifestation of a deeper rot. Europe built its prosperity on cheap Russian gas and cheap Middle Eastern oil while taking moral stances against both.

It shut down its own nuclear capacity. It limited domestic extraction.

It bet that the transition to renewables would happen faster than the old supply chains would fail. It lost that bet.

Now it’s rationing energy in its wealthiest cities and telling citizens to stay home in pajamas to save fuel.

A continent that was producing most of the world’s advanced manufacturing in 1990 is now debating whether to run the air conditioning.

That’s not a crisis. That’s a collapse.

The military situation is the silent emergency that will determine everything else.

Europe has functionally disarmed over the last thirty years.

NATO defense spending is a fiction in most European countries.

Ammunition stockpiles are months, not years.
Industrial capacity to produce military equipment at scale doesn’t exist.
The continent cannot defend itself from Russia without American support and American support is not reliable.

If the US decides Europe’s security is Europe’s problem, which Trump has been explicit about, Europe has no independent capability to protect itself.

A continent that can’t defend itself is not a civilization. It’s a protectorate.

A Europa deixará de ser uma civilização relevante ainda nesta geração, e quase ninguém se dispõe a dizer isso nesses termos.

A Europa está, de facto,  a deixar de ser o que foi nos últimos quinhentos anos.

O continente que produziu a revolução científica, a revolução industrial, o império global, a democracia liberal e grande parte da herança intelectual e cultural da qual o mundo moderno depende está, genuinamente, a desaparecer.

O que a substituirá compartilhará parte da mesma geografia e alguns dos mesmos idiomas, mas não será a mesma civilização.

As seis semanas de combustível de avião não são a história.

A história é que esta é a consequência visível de uma civilização que perdeu a vontade de se sustentar.

A Europa parou de ter filhos.

A Europa parou de produzir sua própria energia.

A Europa parou de se defender.

A Europa parou de desenvolver capacidade industrial.

A Europa parou de expandir suas economias em termos reais.

A Europa parou de acreditar o suficiente em sua própria herança cultural para transmiti-la.

Cada um desses fatores, individualmente, é uma crise.

Juntos, eles representam um suicídio civilizacional em câmera lenta.

O colapso demográfico é a condição terminal. Uma taxa de fertilidade de 1,3 a 1,5 por geração significa que a população nativa será reduzida a metade em duas gerações.

A migração de reposição de populações culturalmente distintas não representa a continuidade da civilização. É uma substituição.

O continente ainda existirá.

A população será diferente.

A cultura será diferente.

Os sistemas políticos construídos em torno da antiga população estarão sob uma pressão para a qual não foram projetados.

Isso está a acontecer agora e é irreversível, porque as crianças que seriam os europeus de 2060 simplesmente não nasceram.

A crise energética é a manifestação imediata de uma deterioração mais profunda. A Europa construiu a sua prosperidade com base no gás russo barato e no petróleo barato do Oriente Médio, enquanto adotava posições morais contra ambos.

Desativou sua própria capacidade nuclear. Limitou a extração doméstica.

Apostou que a transição para as energias renováveis ​​aconteceria mais rápido do que as antigas cadeias de suprimentos falhariam. Perdeu essa aposta.

Agora está a racionar energia nas suas cidades mais ricas e a dizer aos cidadãos para ficarem em casa de pijama para economizar combustível.

Um continente que produzia a maior parte da manufatura avançada do mundo em 1990 agora debate se deve ligar o ar-condicionado.

Isso não é uma crise. Isso é um colapso.

A situação militar é a emergência silenciosa que determinará todo o resto.

A Europa desarmou-se funcionalmente nos últimos trinta anos.

Os gastos com defesa da OTAN são uma fição na maioria dos países europeus.

As reservas de munição são para meses, não para anos.

A capacidade industrial para produzir equipamentos militares em larga escala é inexistente.

O continente não pode defender-se da Rússia sem o apoio americano, e o apoio americano não é confiável.

Se os EUA decidirem que a segurança da Europa é problema da Europa, como Trump já afirmou explicitamente, a Europa não terá capacidade independente para se proteger.

Um continente que não consegue defender-se não é uma civilização. É um protetorado.
