Muslim Helena Bowe, 40, is suing police after she says officers required her to remove her hijab for a booking photo following her arrest.

Bowe is seeking $250,000 in damages, arguing the requirement violated her religious beliefs.

According to Bowe, removing her hijab in front of male officers and cameras goes against her faith.

The booking photo was taken at the Patrick T. Sullivan Public Safety Complex in Ferndale, where detainees are photographed during the booking process.

Bowe claims the situation forced her to violate her religious beliefs and is now pursuing legal action against the officers involved.

Helena Bowe, uma muçulmana de 40 anos, está a processar a polícia após alegar que os agentes a obrigaram a remover o hijab para a foto de registro após sua prisão.

Bowe pede uma indenização de US$ 250.000, argumentando que a exigência violou as suas crenças religiosas.

Segundo Bowe, remover o hijab na frente de policiais homens e cameras vai contra a sua fé.

A foto de registro foi tirada no Complexo de Segurança Pública Patrick T. Sullivan, em Ferndale, onde os detidos são fotografados durante o processo de registro.

Bowe afirma que a situação a forçou a violar as suas crenças religiosas e agora está a mover uma ação judicial contra os polícias envolvidos.

Abdulraziq Mohammed, 33, the illegal migrant from Sudan took a five year old girl and sexually assaulted her, he took the girl who had been playing outside, into his room at a shared house in Winson Green, Birmingham, on March 30 last year. The girl’s mother and a friend began a frantic search before the mother heard crying coming from inside the property. Looking through an open window, the friend saw Mohammed and the child with their shorts pulled down. When she tried to climb in to rescue the girl, Mohammed punched her, causing her to fall back onto the street.

Members of the public forced entry into the home, rescued the child and detained Mohammed until police arrived. At Birmingham Crown Court he was found guilty of false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault of a girl under 13 and assaulting the woman who tried to intervene.

Mohammed, a Sudanese national, was jailed for 11 years with a four-year extended licence, bringing his total sentence to 15 years. The court heard the ordeal has had a lasting impact on the victim and her mother, who now suffers from anxiety, panic attacks and sleepless nights.

Ele levou a menina, que estava brincando do lado de fora, para o seu quarto numa casa compartilhada em Winson Green, Birmingham, em 30 de março do ano passado. A mãe da menina e uma amiga começaram uma busca frenética antes que a mãe ouvisse choro vindo de dentro da propriedade. Olhando por uma janela aberta, a amiga viu Mohammed e a criança com os shorts abaixados. Quando ela tentou entrar para resgatar a menina, Mohammed a socou, fazendo-a cair na rua.

Membros do público entraram à força na casa, resgataram a criança e detiveram Mohammed até a chegada da polícia. No Tribunal da Coroa de Birmingham, ele foi considerado culpado de cárcere privado com a intenção de cometer um crime sexual, abuso sexual de uma menina menor de 13 anos e agressão à mulher que tentou intervir.

Mohammed, um cidadão sudanês, foi condenado a 11 anos de prisão com uma licença estendida de quatro anos, elevando a sua sentença total para 15 anos. O tribunal ouviu que o sofrimento teve um impacto duradouro na vítima e na sua mãe, que agora sofre de ansiedade, ataques de pânico e noites sem dormir.
